What Are You Doing About the Gap?

So why do people join network marketing?  Of course there are a million different reasons, but there are some commonalities.  Most people do so because they want to get something more…

They want to earn more money, have a better lifestyle, enjoy more time with their family, etc.  So they want something different in life.  Yet why do so many people want something different – yet expect to receive it by staying the same?

You get more by becoming more.  And we all have a gap.  The gap of who we are, versus who we need to become in order to progress.  And of course the gap should never really close, it simply advances to higher levels.  Your network, bonus check, wealth, relationships, etc. will all grow only as fast as you do.

You have to be willing to get out of your comfort zone to achieve breakthroughs.  For me, that means meeting new people, driving to new houses for presentations, and forcing myself to be social.

That’s why self-development is the lynchpin in our business.  Everyone comes into the biz wanting more, but trying to get it while remaining the person they came in as.  That dog don’t hunt…

You have to recognize the gap.  They you either quit because you don’t want to do the work it demonstrates – or you decide to work on closing the gap.  So which one are you going to do?

  1. Closing the Gap! I beleive one of the most important things I’ve done this year is become an even greater student of our profession, reading, reading, reading, and the top two highlights was attending Randy’s Mega MLM event in Vegas and the NWM Mastermind event with Art Jonak … learning from Top Leaders from other companies not only exposes you to top attitudes and thinking, it also makes that crazy “competition” gap smaller and brings a greater respect for each other within our profession.

Thank you Randy for all that you do.

  2. I chose to get into Network Marketing to create FREEDOM in my life to CHOOSE what I would like to do and to help 1000s to do the same.
The gap for me is big and I am determined to close it and make it happen to show to myself and everyone around me the great opportunity that exists in this industry. Thanks for sharing this Randy. Make it a great day!

  3. Working on closing the gap, working a full time JOB is my main hinderance right now, my resolution for 2010 is to develop a plan for prospecting during non-JOB hours.

  5. Randy,

There is another option. My current study of leadership and creating breakthroughs is exactly what you are talking about here. The option to close the gap or quit is short the other option. Increase the GAP! Begin creating serious problems, breakdowns in your life. “If it ain’t broke, break it.” and you will either quit…normal method or you will begin experiencing breakthroughs. The trouble we are about success… is takes some suffering [breakdown] before any exhileration and success [breakthrough] occurs. Hey go make a mess of your day and have fun cleaning it up.

  6. I have been searching for my core limiting beliefs. I think I found it “I am a victim.” I was not even aware of that belief since I have dedicated my life for fighting for economic equality in the U.S.
I don’t think people can built a succesful network marketing business if they have limiting beliefs. They self-sabotage.
Learning skills without changing my beliefs: I need to work 12 hours per day until I die won’t do it.
That’s like adding the best fuel to your favorite car when the engine is blown. Useless.
Action without direction is like a monkey jumping from tree to tree having fun and no results.
thanks Randy, the fog is starting to lift over here.

  7. Wow, this opens a big one for me. Playing the role of victim? I am an expert at that. I am the Queen of Excuses. Reading and going to events? I have done lots of that too. Wants and Dreams, I have all those in place.

Randy, you have hit it on the nose for me. Just get out of my comfort zone, meet people, learn to communicate, and get out of the closet and announce that I am a network marketer. That is closing the gap for me.

Self Development means not only reading and going to events, but it actually means to TAKE ACTION, which I have been lacking. Sure I am on the computer,in my home office, but I need to get out there so I can make a difference in my life, my family’s and my community and beyond.

Thank you, Randy, for this blog that woke me up this morning. I am taking charge now to breakthrough my comfort zone and advance to higher levels.

Thanks to everyone who contributes to these blogs.

Live Life to Its Fullest in Happiness and Great Health.

  9. Thanks Randy,
I think you are so right there. This is what I my self have thought about a lot. It is true that if you are not aware of this, there is no way you can get any progress or success in this MLM business. So we all really need to become more, to do the things we didn´t think we were able to do. I think we have to overcome the fear – the fear to do wrong – to fail. You sai´d it well in Stockholm. Fail and do the mistakes in your warm market – and then you learn to do better…

  10. Reading and Listening to tapes. I made a CD of all my goals of the person I am becoming and listen to it 5 times daily. Thank you for all of the input and messages. I listen to the rat race alot.

  11. The gap – it’s a tricky thing. Those, who are not ready to grow, they will quit anyway. But those, who stay, many of them will not have the desired results. Why?
Even if they have big goals, and work hard, ready to grow – is not always enough to reach them. Who will tell them exactly, what is missing?

Very often the gap is too big. Their subconscious mind will not believe, that it can can come true. Even if they try hard, and do their best, they still can fail. So one thing is to set goals which are more close to present reality, and the other thing is about feeling rich already with what we have now. If we concentrate on what we lack, (distant, irrealistic goals can do that), we will feel ourselves poor, so we stay poor.

So real goals+staying on the ground, looking at the next step, and to feel rich with what we have now(even if it is little)=this could help more people to have bigger results.

  12. Being – Doing – Having and that in the right direction.

    Learning and changing my mindset.

    Doing it.

And have the success like my status of personal development.

Our business grows like we grow, says my upline. And they are right.

  13. I see a lot of people talking about “reading, learning, studying, etc.”

That won’t close the gap, people. That only makes you a professional student.

You need to get out there and:

    1. Talk to people
    2. Talk to people
    3. Talk to people

    THAT will close the gap.

  14. I totally agree that learning to become a better person will definitely close that Gap. Our great mentor Mr. Jim Rhone taught us that for things to change we have to change. Come 2010, it must be More intense and consistent action. I strongly believe if we combine Personal Development with High Positive Action we will be able to close the gap.

  15. So, there will be always a gap. Won’t there be?

Why do we, as human beings, have to work hard for something that we never get (I mean to close the gap)? Some people just fight the desire inside themselves, because they find happiness when they desire nothing. In this business (MLM), people need to desire.

May I say that we have the power to create a gap in our lives, and give ourselves the sense of fulfilment in life when we try to close the gap? But, we can do exactly the opposite, and feel the same.

  16. I love you randy for your blog on closing the gap. I found a real definition of what getting out of your comfort zone means in network marketing. I always feel that AN EXTRAORDINARY ACHIEVEMENT CANT BE MADE IN AN ORDINARY WAY. Thank You. Thank You very much.

  17. Absolutely closing the gap! I’m disciplining myself to do what’s required both personally and in my business. And to do these things consistently, that’s key.

    Best regards,

  20. Hello Randy,
You are correct when you say people do not want to change after they get in the business. Why should they complain when their mindset is not prepared to change. This business model starts with you developing and you teaching and training your team. If you have a negatve view, how can you develop a team to become successful.
Change your attitude and sudy personal development experts. to aquire skills for success.
Thanks Randy for your wealth of knowlege in this profession
    DG

  21. I will continue to talk to people even when they say MLM as if is it a ‘dirty’ word and then say how many companies they have been a part of. I will talk until some one hears and takes the step to being better and we form a team to help others.
