Securing Lines

Back in the day, when old school guys like me started in the business, it was a simple equation to figure out how to secure lines and build depth. We were all working stair-step breakaway programs, and it was a simple process. Now with all of the Binary, Matrix, and hybrid plans out there, things are a little less clear. But at the end of the day, it’s still about duplication and developing leaders.

Securing a line…

Back then, people would say that you don’t leave a line until it’s three to five levels deep or until the line breaks away. In fact, you should NEVER leave a line. Your role will change, however.

Initially, you will be involved in the day-to-day building of the line, working with your new enrollees in their fast start training, helping with initial presentations, and teaching them the fundamentals. From there, you will evolve into the counseling stage.

Now, you are out of the day-to-day building, but you play a much more important role—counseling with the leader of the line on a monthly basis. We’ll discuss this counseling in more depth in future posts. For now, know that this is the stage when growth should really start to take off in that line.

Ultimately, the head of the line should evolve into a top-level pin rank themselves. At this point, ongoing counseling may or may not be necessary. You then evolve into more of a motivating presence for the line. You’re the living example of someone who’s “made it,” and simply being who and where you are motivates people in the organization.

You will probably be the guest speaker once or twice each year at the cross-line meetings in their areas, and you may appear as a guest of honor at large family events conducted by these distributors.

You should always be supporting the line in one of these capacities. You will move from training to counseling when they have the fundamentals down, and from counseling to a motivating presence after the line is secure.

By secure, I mean the line is “cooked”—it provides true walk-away income. Even if you stop working with the line, it will continue to grow and provide passive income to you. This only happens when you have enough core leaders in that line.

The reason that most people fail in networking is that they fail to identify and work with leaders. They are concerned with the number of people in their group or what their volume is, and they fail to key in on leaders. They are working only their pay levels, or, in many cases, with their personal enrollees.

To succeed at the high levels of MLM, you must identify and work with your leaders, regardless of what level they are on. In fact, a lot of the time when you are building depth, you will be working out of your pay range. This is the only true method to secure lines.

  1. Randy,
I really appreciate your knowledge, experience and the willingness to share it with us. I find that most people get into this industry thinking that it’s like buy a lottery ticket, and not as buying and setting up a very successful business. They don’t respect the opportunity therefore fail to apply decipline to there commitment. They treat it like a hobby and get paid like a hobby. They work it like a babysitting service and earn baby sitting wages. Than wonder why it doesn’t work for them.. A 1000 X 0 = 0 do nothing, earn nothing…:o)
    Thank you, RICO
