Setting Standards

Most everybody sets standards for themselves.  And I bet 99 percent of the time they’re too low.  I can tell you that I set very high standards for myself in many areas.  And truth is, they’re too low.

One of the most important things you will do as a leader is to help your people set higher goals and challenge themselves more.  Think of the personal trainer analogy.  If you’ve ever worked in the gym with one, you know you lifted more weights, did more reps and more exercises than you ever would have done by yourself.

That’s what you need to be.  The personal trainer for your people.  Most of the time, people will rise to the standards you set for them.

  1. Once again as you & I know getting people to buy into daily personal development time really helps ramp up the process of massive goal achievement..

It’s simple, we teach people to grow their people & the people grow the network.

Stated another way, people’s businesses will only grow as fast as they do personally.

  2. Great analogy Randy!

It’s just getting them into the gym! LOL

Love the personal development part of this business and I do share books and cd’s with my team. “Whenever you’re ready” is what I tell them.

    Best regards,

  3. I have to say that after attending an international event of my team got the message today.

I’m getting in practice for about a month. Every Saturday train from 3-5 pm at my house to the new people I enrolled and I share the new option to those who lack experience and have sponsored new members to take them and train.

The result I’m starting to see much relation to the issues raised in today’s publication on this blog.

People who have attended and the following week to see me again, have come to know new people during the week, thus building your list and begin to put into practice the teachings on how to invite and how to follow up.

  4. Great info Randy

I know I also set my standards too low. But as a leader. I lead by example and always set my activity at a higher level the others. The problem your post made me realize as I read it, was that i set a standard just above everyone else. Not a standard that challenges me and pushes me to be the best I can be.

It’s like working out at the gym with people not as strong as you are. I order to really reach your potential you must work out with people doing more then you.

I need to find work out partners that are doing more then me.

    Thanks Randy

  5. Hi Randy,

Great post! Too frequently we do set our goals too low and hit them. Better too set them too high and fail, you’ll stretch, grow and learn more than if you set comfortable goals.

    All the best,

    Alan

  6. Hey Randy,

A good leader can motiviate his people, to lead by personal example of high level of standart to be the best he can. By leading in this way, we can get to umplement
the best potential in the organization.
There is a saying like this, Success isn’t only a purpose, it’s a way of life.

  7. I would follow with staying clear on that standard, and expecting those standards from your team. When you hold people in that light — you will help them lock in that new way of being. Any new way of being is fragile in the beginning. It takes discipline to keep seeing people for who they can be.

Thank you for the reminder Randy!
