Are You Willing to be Great?

Two days ago we looked at Developing Your Skills and yesterday looked at Two Truths You Must Know. Now let’s take the discussion deeper…

I said the difference between amateurs and professionals is the pros don’t argue for their limitations.  They develop their skill sets.  And here’s the thing to know about that…

For every person seeking greatness, there are dozens of others charged with safeguarding mediocrity.

No one starts off great; no one starts off as a pro.  That’s why I said you can’t look good and get better at the same time.  You have to be willing to make mistakes. You have to be willing to look bad.

Want to become a great inviter or great presenter?  First you have to become a good one.  Want to become a good one?  First you have to be willing to be a bad one.

As long as you are willing to stay in the game and develop your skills, you’ll always have a shot.  Those of us that earn the most money in network marketing are the ones that faced the most rejection, endured the most ridicule and made the most mistakes.

We failed.  Over and over again.  But here is the most important thing you will ever learn in the business:

The opposite of success is NOT failure.  It is mediocrity.  Failure is actually a part of the success process.  It is how we learn and grow and become the kind of person that creates success.  So stop trying to avoid failure.  Embrace it and learn from it.

What you really must fear is mediocrity.  Because nothing is more tragic than someone with your potential accepting a life of mediocrity.  So will you rise to the challenge?

Remember:

For every person seeking greatness, there are dozens of others charged with safeguarding mediocrity.  Are you willing to be great?

  1. Kudos! Excellent post Randy.

We grew up thinking failure was a bad thing. It’s so nice to finally realize that it is not a bad thing, in fact, it can be one of the best things that has ever happened to you, it can turn your life around.

  2. Randy, So well said.

The absurd thing about aiming for mediocrity is that one experiences many failures whether living a mediocre life or going for it all. The reason why this person doesn’t recognize their failures is because they’re in a comfort zone. Life may be miserable but at least they’re not experiencing the pain of somebody going after the big stakes, someone who struggles and fails and is mocked for having the courage that others wish they possessed.

  3. The opposite of success is NOT failure. It is mediocrity. Failure is actually a part of the success process. It is how we learn and grow and become the kind of person that creates success. So stop trying to avoid failure. Embrace it and learn from it.

The fear of failure has been holding me back.

    1. Jack – I’m have been an expert in certain times of my life 🙂

      Can I guess?

Self-sabotage is doing everything to avoid success. Like if someone said to them, and you didn’t. Or procrastinating. Or finding excuses not to do things. Self-sabotage you are successful – cos you’ve achieved something: you’ve proved yourself right that you are not good enough, not enough, not lovable or not worthy. It’s defeatist.

Failure is trying our hardest and getting it wrong, when you did your best to succeed. It’s playing with out with the aim to master it, and not managing. It’s a hapening in life.

Looking forward to what RG says…

  4. One of my core values is the lead myself and others to Greatness – inspired from here you speak this past September.
It is very easy to dwell in mediocrity – but every day that I do remember to strive for greatness makes it easier to pull myself out of it.
Right now I’m enjoying Robin Sharma’s The Greatness Guide – if you need something to remind you about Greatness – this is an excellent resource.
Thanks Randy! I’m prepared to fail until I succeed at the highest level.

  5. Of course I´m willing to be great, otherwise I had stoped what I´m doing for a long time ago. Everybody make misstakes and from them you learn, It is when you stop learning from your misstakes that you are going to fail.
So go on do missstakes but don´t forget to learn from them :).

    Have a great day,

  6. I think “willing to be great” is along the lines of “Fear of Success” which can hold more people back than fear of failure. I know that was my struggle for a long time, and once I dug into the heart of it, it came down to a fear that I would not be able to handle all of the demands of a young family and a thriving business.

Once I realized that I was growing personally at the same or slightly higher rate than my business and it all came together, it relieved that fear.

There is greatness inside of us all. And, a story begging to be told. Each person has the ability to strike a chord and make a difference in the lives of many. Be willing to BE GREAT and enjoy the gift that offers others.

Like always, don’t make it about “you” personally!

    EXPECT Success!

  7. Hi guys
I think failure is just part of the journey, blink and its behind you.
How much do you want this business? Enough to get up and try again? Thats what makes us successfull at anything. If you are struggling with self motivation, check out your belief. If you fall down in this respect borrow some one elses for the time being! Make the effort to talk to successful people!

  8. Randy, thanks for this challenge.

I completely agree with you. One has to be consistent, and only consistency will put you on the stage.

People will look at you not only as an adventurer but as someone that really got determined to do something different.

Only then people will trust you, and join you.

    Whatever opportunity you have.

    It doesn’t matter which one.

I think this is one of the secrets to become successful in NM.

    Your toughts?

    Love you all

  9. Developing the ‘skill sets’ after looking bad is such a hard lesson! But, it truly is the only way to start believing in ourselves and our abilities…Thanks Randy for reminding us to always keep our learning antennas up!

  10. One of my favorite aphorisms … Success is 99% FAILURE.

Whatever you are looking to learn, plan it’s failures into your day. A day without failure is a day without learning. You did not learn to ride a bicycle thinking about it, watching others, reading about, building it, etc… you got on and fell off long enough for you to get ‘balance.’ You will not be able to explain to anyone how to ride afterwards either. You will understand the explanations others meant once you know how.

Caution: you cannot unlearn how to ride a bicycle… or anything else.

  11. peaple ask me about the money , Infact about the epoint
they ask me why is difficalt for reseve our money?
and i answer to them that u can have a account in another country or be holding for anew invest!!

  12. Everything we were taught in school and by everything around us has been not to make any mistakes. I mean, mistakes could cost us our lives!

But the truth is that in our modern life, most of the risk we need to take to earn the success we want is more emotional than life-threatening and most of it is not even financially risky!

So, we have to get it wrong before we get it right, which is the way we learned as a child learning to walk and stuff, but we’ve forgotten.

We can see the difference between university/college graduates and those who did not go that far. Those of us in the former group are generally shit scared of being wrong because we have a piece of paper that says we’ve arrived. People in the latter group seem more free and their success often appear less limited.

I mean, look at you, Randy!

  13. Randy querido,

Me apena mucho decirte que NO ESCRIBO INGLES, lo entiendo escrito y hablado

  14. That was well put Randy! I agree 100% with your blog. Fear is what stops unsuccessful people from being successful. The biggest barricade in most of our way is our self. Stop beating yourself and you will have all the success you’re looking for.

  15. Such fundamental clarity ought to appear in some of your future writings as I can not rmember having seen this before in your books! this really should console people struggeling on the way up. Thanks.

  16. Great article Randy.

There is one common thing I have seen in my years in the industry and that is fear that one doesn’t have the knowledge necessary to succeed or to be great. Fear keeps people from taking action. That fear keeps people from every become great marketers.

So often, they wait until they are ready. They seek out more knowledge before taking action. The problem is that most people never feel ready. Therefore, they never take the action truly needed to be great or successful.

  17. “The opposite of success is NOT failure. It is mediocrity. Failure is actually a part of the success process. It is how we learn and grow and become the kind of person that creates success. So stop trying to avoid failure. Embrace it and learn from it.”

    Bravo Randy… Grand slam Baby!
It’s not the destination that matters, It’s the journey.
Instant success is not attainable, but the journey makes it sustainable.
So if we wish to enjoy the end result we must first learn to enjoy the process…

Keep up the great work… I believe in you!

  18. I find your statements and all the comments you get back to be right on. I’ve always believed in a saying I heard a long time ago: “Successful people do what unsuccessful people don’t like to do”. We’ll make mistakes, fall on our faces, feel like fools. However, this is what EVERYONE goes through on their journey to success. It’s how we respond to these challenges that makes or breaks us.

  19. Greatness is determined by the size of sacrifice which a man is ready to put for his greatness.
A Great man always had great sacrifices in his life.

The scale of greatness someone determined of scale of his sacrifices. Successful people aren’t always Great.
Success can pass through the time; greatness is stay after someone’s death. Great people live mark in history.

For willing to became Great I have to pay a Great price: maybe, don’t have an own family or change my character, or pay my time for working extra hours, or sleep less .… To make step out from my zone of comfort. I have to death for “myself”.

I deeply though about your question and I don’t know if I really want to became Great.
To be successful- sure, I want, but to be Great…. I don’t know.

Randy, do you think you’re Great? What was your price for Greatness?

  21. The secret to success in Homebased business and earning money online is to build business relationships with 4 to 6 GONOW PEOPLE !

People with the right attitude and beleif who are coachable and not afraid to be re-eduacated or re-programed , have the desire , work ethic , communication skllls and intellengence to work a proven system for 1 to 3 years to reach their goals. Traditional Network Marketing does not work for the masses who can’t recruit or train. ( The secret is to teach people how to service manage 10 to 25 customers and get paid on all their spending/shopping ! )

I’t ‘s who you know and who they know !

It is sorting not selling !

It is buiding the realtionship, knowing what makes them tick ! what the want or buy, where they like to shop. Or what they like to do !

It is persuading them to look at and agrree to join your cause/your company’s cause and benfiting them at the same time !

One to one marketing, mass customization , product brokerage,
getting paid to shop and getting people what they want, not just what you think they need ! matching product to people and people to product !
