The Real Reason People Fail

In the blog on my other site I’ve been talking lately about procrastination.  Let’s explore that deeper, but in another context.  Looking at the real reason for why things “happen to you.”

I have a friend I sponsored into my business.  He’s a guy who has struggled financially his whole life.  But he insists he is committed to getting wealthy, so he joined the biz.

We had a weekly business briefing in town every Wednesday.  The first week, he had to work late, so he missed it.  The second week his boss was riding with him so he couldn’t get there in time.  The next week a shelf fell over and he cut his hand and needed stitches.  You get the picture.

It has now been about ten weeks, and he’s never made one.  I don’t even ask him for the excuses anymore.  But I guarantee you he has one for every week.  But what’s the real reason he doesn’t show up?

Because he doesn’t want to let go of victim-hood and become rich.  But don’t expect him to believe that.  He believes in the symptoms, instead of looking at the disease.

So what about you?  What have you been having a hard time doing lately?  And what’s the real reason?

  1. You need four core beliefs in order to succeed in Network Marketing:

    1) The Product
    2) The Company
    3) The Industry
    4) Yourself

99% of those I’ve sponsored can be TAUGHT the first three in their first week.

It’s #4 that trips them up.

Ever wonder why Amway did $8 BILLION last year.

They focus on #4 until we all cry “Cult”.

Makes you step back and think about how you handle new people, doesn’t it?

  2. I couldn’t agree with you more, Robert!

It seems that everyone is in awe at the kind incomes that folks are achieving “every day” in network marketing. However, when “most” take the leap and realize that there is some hard work involved, they back off and claim it as some type of “pyramid” scheme.

Treat this amazing business with desire, passion and good old fashion hard work and success is right around the corner.

If people only realized that it simply takes 3-6 months of hard work building a solid foundation, that the rewards can truly be everlasting. It beats the 30 year plan in my opinion.

Keep up with RG’s entries and all the other time-proven information he provides to give you the tools and know-how to become a million dollar producer…or, even, multi-million =)

  3. -RG,

I have been running into a bit of a ruff patch lately.

It’s odd because my business has been doing well. I think that it is just a challenge to see if I can handle it.

The good news is that I’m handling it.

  4. Wasn’t it Jim Rohn who tells us, “some will, some won’t, don’t sign up for that class”? In our company those who are having trouble in the business are the group who just won’t make the time to make the change. It’s the same with every distributor who flames out, no one has seen them for weeks at an event and their upline can’t get a return call. Our retention is going up as we get better systems and tools in place. Let a prospect reject the tool/system and the cautious distributor feels safer….

  5. I feel that you can train people about the products and the industry, but it is very difficult to give them self belief and confidence. You can do this by lending them yours untill they self ignite. In other words we are relationship builders!
They have had years of being told they are not good enough and not to put their head above the parapet. We come along and tell them to stick their head in the lions mouth!
So show them you care about them and will go the extra mile for them (but not too far..) and they will sit up and take notice.
So think about what can you do, to show your distributors, you notice what they do. If I can borrow a US expression…”walk a mile in another mans moccasins”
    its a learning experience!

  6. Hey Randy!

I agree that some people are tire kickers and want a quick Fix money system,
but I also know that there are many hard working people that lacked any direction or idea where to start, didn’t have any marketing skills and got ate alive on the internet !

There are tons of how to and so called income opportunity sites out there…..
junk ebooks and so called success sites…..they all provide bits and pieces of a truely successful marketing system!

For 4 years I joined every income opportunity and bought many so called marketing success ebooks….they were crap, they just had their opportunity links and bits of real information!

There are several truely successful marketers that are trying to educate and change things in this industry….Mike Dillard, Mike Klingler and Ann Sieg!
These guys are giving back to the industry and sharing their success with others!

New work at home people, lack a step by step success blueprint, that guides them to mastering marketing and ultimately takes them to success!

If you know of a single site that offers a detailed success blueprint, that offers step by step training/videos, that insures every members success, let me know where that is?

The only one that I have found that comes close to that is:
    https://www.renegadeprofessional.com/?refid=57684

Mike Klingler and Ann Sieg have a truely great system that teaches all the marketing steps! The only thing that is missing, is a blueprint….do this first, this second, and so on!

In summary, the 95% failure rate in this industry is due to lack of marketing skills and guidance….this especially true with the Nutritional MLM’s!

I am looking forward to your comments and suggestions!

  7. Is not the missing link the actual “benefits” the new business partner will
see as their’s and feel the “fit”? Does not the “benefits’ assist in the consistency phase as the marketer has taken ownership of the benefits as theirs and has something they believe in? Should not “benefits be the link between me , my company, and my opportunity thought process which is still used and abused? Is not addressing “what’s in it for the marketer personnally” the core motivator to remind them when times get tough why they made the decision in the first place?

  8. I have, and continue, to make all the excuses as to why I don’t do the business. I’ve been too busy getting ready to get busy, but I know the real reason I am not working my business is fear.

It’s not a fear of failing so much as it’s a fear of success. I am so used to living in the day to day struggle for my financial survival that what would happen to me if I actually succeeded? I guess my life would change — that’s not so bad is it? Bottom line is — this is all I know — I’ve lived this way for 49 years.

  9. Randy,

There’s a proverb we have hear in Nigeria. Says, “You can force a horse to the riverbank, but you cannot force it to drink water”. I think this goes up to sum up all we’ve being saying. There is always a limit to which you can pull someone along if they are not willing to help themselves. You cannot do more than they are willing to let you do (through their actions)

James Allen could not have put it more succintly when he said in his famous book, “As a man thinketh” that “They themselves are the makers of themselves”.

Opportunity comes to all, but not all take the opportunity. They blame society, they blame the economy, they blame their spouses, they blame their toddlers, they blame their teenagers, they blame their bosses …. and the list is endless. There is absolutely NOTHING good that comes out from blaming other people, instead it just makes you surrender your power/control to them when ever you do that.

Where there is a will, there is a way. Have you ever taken a look at an ant when it is faced with an obstruction? What does it do? It tries to go around, or go under or go over but it never stops going just because there is an obstruction. And that should be the same with us all. These obstacles that we face should be a stepping stone to higher ground and not a stumbling stone. Failure cannot stand persistence. Obstacles cannot stand persistence. If you look through all those that have been successful in this business, you will discover that they all have a powerful belief in themselves and they have an iron-willed persistence.

There is no one that doesn’t face challenges, even Randy, just that over time, you get skilled and the better equipped to handle the next challenge because of the last one you successfully overcame.

YOU are your best product in this business, Not the products on the list that you market, not your upline’s or your downline’s skills. No. It’s YOU. Always remember that – YOU are your best product. Your business will only grow as fast as you do.

Another scenario I can think about now is a car. When a car is pushed to start, it can only be pushed that far, the engine has to pick up for the car to continue to move. The engine is always YOU and no matter how skilled or how good your sponsor is, they can only take you as far.

Sometimes you wish that people like the guy Randy talks about could know much about prioritization. Could know that difference between what is “Urgent” and what is “Important”. Could read books like Stephen Covey’s “Seven habits of highly successful people” but I’m sure you would have noticed as I have that there is an eternal principle at work there: “To him who has much, more will be added onto him, and to him who has little, even the little that he has will be taken away from him”.

Maybe look for the ‘Common Denominator’

Most of those comments; excuses are structured after contemplating why they themselves have failed, self satisfying answers! Fooling only one person!

We can be inspired but I don’t believe we can live anybody else’s dream. It has to be personalized to us.

If anybody can tell me how we develop DESIRE, I would be interested in their answer because until they learn this simple secret, they have seen dozens of times but never acted upon it, they will never succeed!

Frank Betger of ‘How I raised myself from failure to success in selling’ say’s

Become a ‘StoryTeller’ or have a great personal testimony because Frank said “Show me a person who will tell his ‘story’ to five people every day and I will show you a successful person” (from memory)

Finally, I heard and believe, that there is only one reason why people fail and that is they just simply, QUIT!

  11. I have not seen any of the financial success yet that I am aiming at.
Life itself, with all the taking care of important errands is a huge obstacle.
At this point of my life, having attended hundreds of weekly business briefings
and annual conventions, I am convinced that I need to make all the adjustments to my life myself. I have made adjustments along the way, but
there are a lot more to be made. One that I clearly needed to make, was to
lose weight. Starting this last 15th of May, I have lost 14 kg and 12cm from my
waist. Now that is an adjustment that is going to have an effect to my business.
I still weigh 108 kg, so I will go on. Make all the adjustments, at work, at home,
bedtime, exercise, give up TV, unproductive hobbies etc. Make all of them!
This is the only way until you succeed, and that is what I am doing.

  12. Hi Randy
yes your right,if one of my group members doesnt come to my sesions for many times i just dont mention to him anymore.becouse as you told the reason is that he want to be victim yet and he must work on his mind yet too.
    thanks

  13. Dear Randy,
    I thought about
the issue: why don’t people do anything
to change their lifes. They used to live the way they
used too: I have to go to my job, I have to visit my
friends, I have to wash my car etc. They already have
a program for every day. And when someone ask them to
add something new to their life — very often they
just do not agree because they ah.. have to do something
very important. Because every hour of their lifes
is already planned in details. 2 hours for this useless
things, another for those… and all of them will look
for excuses because they already promised to you but
they wouldn’t get a chance to change their programs.

Thank you for your blog posts, emails, twitter messages
    that make me stay awake.

    Yours, Roman Malakhov

  14. This fear of success deserves to be explored more, to help those of us who have it succeed. I have a good J.O.B. position. I see all the possibilities in NM, yet I am always allowing myself to get distracted. Some of those distractions are legitimate – family, work, things around the house that need doing (well, some of them, although if I was being successful I could pay for someone else to do them). However, many of them are not – reading ‘stuff’ on the Internet, watching ‘idle’ things on TV.

I have a cue card that came with the book “The New Psycho-Cybernetics” that reads “How does doing this move me measurably closer to my goals?” Unfortunately, I do not read it often enough. It needs to become my daily affirmation – repeated multiple times each day. Then MAYBE I would get off my chair and achieve the success I know I can and should achieve!

  15. It was only after I began to fucus on #4 that my income went from 2,000.00 a month to 30,000 a month!!! In just 6 months. Now that is my focus for my team as well.

  16. People need to always look for ways to improve their skill set. Attend company events, get on the conference calls, attend generic events, read books, etc.

People don’t fail our business, they quit – on themselves!

  17. I received an email today which just blew me away. It was an email asking me to join a training call tonight. The trainer was Lisa Jimenez. The call was titled “Conquering Fear!” How to Create a Prosperity Mind-Set. Lisa was trained by none other than Randy Gage.

Lisa talked about Randy telling her that she was afraid of success. What a blessing for me to have received an email on the very issue holding me back.

I may not be where I would like to be at this moment but I’m on my way. Never give up the dream–keep pushing on and you’ll create your dream life.

  18. There is no excuse that we can make for not being successful in this industry. If people in other nations that do not have the resources and income we have in the U.S. make it network markleting then what real excuse do we have? As Nike coined a few years back, ‘Just Do it.’

  19. Hi its Peter G Beckworth here from Australia. There was once a young salesman who went to a farm to upgrade a farmers old tractor. As they walked towards the tractor shed, they went pass a dog which was making a terrible howling noise, the salesman said to the farmer what is wrong with your dog.and the farmer said he is not himself just now, after the sale they walked back pass the dog once more, and so the salesman said, now what is really wrong with this dog, so the farmer said he is laying on a four inch nail, SO why does’nt he move, and the farmer replied, IT’S NOT HURTING ENOUGH YET.so don’t lose your vision , keep your mind on the things you want, and OFF the thing’s that you DON’T want…….
