The Power of Disbelief to Keep You Broke

We talk a lot about belief.  Sometimes I think we should talk more about disbelief, because it does a lot more damage.

I was talking to someone in West Virginia about joining my network.  She told me that she was willing to look at it, but warned me upfront that she lived in WV, and people there aren’t very open to things like that.  I suggested that her belief wasn’t a very empowering one, and she may want to replace it.

She agreed and said she would look at the business with an open mind.  After I sent her the info she replied that it looked great for me, but wouldn’t work for her because it is centered on a health product line – and WV is the unhealthiest state in the Union.

It is her disbelief that will keep her broke.  Not really her lack of belief in good things, but her positive disbelief in them.  A pretty powerful foe.  Nothing will kill you faster than negative beliefs.  So how are you doing on that?

  1. Very True. I had a similar incident.. I met a guy on the other day. He liked the plan, products everything but, he was telling his fate is bad. I told him you can change your fate by starting. But he was not ready to lend his ears. This happens to most of the people. Thats why they have to struggle and be broke all the time

  2. I hear that kind of thing a lot. I guess a lot of the disbelief in something stems from a disbelief in themselves. It’s quite comforting though when someone grabs a hold of it and runs with their positive belief.

Hey Randy, you wrote a great book on why people are Dumb Sick and Broke didn’t you 🙂
I recently handed a copy to a friend after they loaned me a DVD on the supposed conspiracy surrounding the Sept 11 USA thing. I politely told him that if he kept listening to that kind of stuff then his whole life would be determined by his fear and he would never ever become anything.
He hasn’t read the book yet. Hope he does, for his sake!

  3. how am I doing on that?

trying to clear my mind from the lady in WV… hehehe

me… disbelief? i think i am doing well with that… i consistently check in (with myself) and evaluate my belief systems… are they accurate? are they timely? are they serving me? and mostly are they mine, or did i accidentally pick up one in my travels? (negative programming from media, and or friends things like that)

when i find that a belief negative or otherwise is getting in the way i deal with it immediately and take action to correct it.

    luv ya — peace out…

  4. Hi Randy:

You don’t seem like someone who would give up on a prospect so easy. I am pretty sure you could help her turn around with a few questions:If I could show a way to find those healthy West Virginians in your town, could you do the business?
I am pretty sure you have more powerful questions than that one. Even if 1% of people living in West Virginians are healthy, that’s still a lot of people.

One of the top distribustor in my company is from Mejico.

    1. You’re probably right. But I guess I’m too old and too rich to try and drag people across the finish line any longer. Spent a lot of years doing that. These days I’m looking for people that get it. It gives me a better lifestyle and protects me from a lot of negativity.

  5. Whatever happens in OUR world, WE project it and have a responsibility for it, be it West Virginia, 9/11 or whatever.

It might not have been “disbelief” in her case, but rather something else she’s not telling. Maybe it was her way of a polite no thanks.

In any case, I would like to see more of customer focus in MLM, rather than the constant talk about new distributors (replacing the old ones?), but OK, maybe customers aren’t really what MLM is about anyway, other than “distributor customers”. I think an unimaginable amount of loyal customers have been lost in MLM due to this, to the joy of other methods and brands. Liking and using the products oneself is after all kind of fundamental for any kind of taking it further in the right way. Sometimes MLM is compared with recommending a movie or restaurant. Not so, since it was recommending them, not owning them!

And by the way, has it not already been stated that you are both right anyway? Her “disbelief” is perhaps more of simply not wanting to do it. Maybe next time though… 🙂

  7. I think you are right.
But if the person you are offering to join the networking really likes to join no matter what will be her/ his beliefs are, he/ she will join.
