The Magic of Resistance

Have you ever done weightlifting with a toothpick?  You probably wouldn’t get very good results would you?

Adversity and challenges are a part of life and our business.   And you have to relish them.  Not easy to do, I know.  But true nevertheless.

Results in weightlifting happen when you stress the muscle, even break it down, so it comes back stronger.   And that’s the same in network marketing…

You face rejection and your invitations get better.  You face ridicule and you do some soul searching why you’re really in the business.  You have people drop out and you recognize your validation must come from yourself.

Remember that above the storm clouds, the sun is still shining as brightly as ever. You just have to see farther or get a different perspective.

The most successful people in our business had the most rejections, the most dropouts and faced the most challenges.  But they refused to give up.  They recognized that those challenges were simply stepping-stones to help them become the kind of person that wanted to be. Remember a dry spell simply causes a tree’s root to go deeper.

They refused to lose.  How about you?

  1. He who has the most no’s wins?? The power of this business is in yourself. You have to motivate you and you are the only one you can control.

  2. -RG,

If success was easy we would all do it.

To become an overnight success it may take years of persistence with much rejection. Then a day will come when the naysayers will want to jump on and cling to your bandwagon.

  3. A wise network marketing friend of mine once told me “convenience and success don’t hangout.” Ever since he told me that, it keeps me focused on what I must do. This is my first month in network marketing and I’m not affraid to say it scared me to fail, but not anymore. For every no, I’m closer to a yes! Keep it pushing everyone and see you at the top!

  4. Hello everybody, hello Mr. Gage,

I understand that effort and resistance are very important thing in life. But, sometimes you can fight against the whole world and your own circumstances; you can struggle for a goal. However the only you can get is be tired and weaker (maybe not stronger), because you fail in your effort. When it happens? When you are struggling to be something that is not in your nature? When you look for the wrong goal?

    1. I guess the best analogy here is the personal trainer. You can much around in the gym and not get much results. But a trainer can help you accelerate and accentuate what you want to happen. Same in our biz. Having a sponsor or mentor can make the difference here.

  5. I am really down when someone drops out or I get another “no” but I try to take it easier and easier.

The time to come back into action becomes shorter. After my first “no” I needed about a month until I talked to the next prospect. But it´s getting better now.

    1. Hi Volker, what you have to remember is that the people who said no, said it to the business, not to you, NPB, Nothing Personal in Business.

It’s all a matter of timing, either the time is right for them to get involved in your business or it isn’t, it’s that simple, but if you’ve presented it correctly there’s nothing to stop you going back 6 months later and saying, “you know that business I showed you 6 mths ago, I’m now making $ XXX.00 would you like to have another look and the answer is yes or no, don’t take it personally.

  6. I absolutely agree with Yoy Randy. Each circumstance in my life is an opportunity of the entire human being I am and I am becoming. Eahc resistance is an opportunity to do “better”, and just be me, be authentic.

  7. Thanks Randy.

I refuse to let the challenges that I face in my life define who I am and hold me back. They are going to be used to create a better me that I can share with everyone.

    Thanks,
    God Bless!

  8. Thanks Randy

That’s so true. NWM is a never ending learning process.
I’ve learned never take it personal and never give up.

  9. Randy,
This is one of my favorite distinctions. Whatever you resist persists! You shared exercising with a toothpick. That is actually resisting being weak. Most people resist being poor and what they get is lots more poor. Resist anger… you get a ton more anger. The difficult part is when you first begin resisting strength your muscles get sore. If you over- do it the first time your muscles may be so sore you decide to go back to toothpicks. The more you resist rejection the more rejection you will get. The soreness of resisting yes, acknowledgement, happiness and joy may look and feel at some level like rejection. New muscles need more work. That may be why it takes time, many times to get who you have to be to resist yes and have it persist, daily.

  10. Hi Randy.
I’m a bodybuilder so I know exactly what you are talking about with the resistance training. I’ve never though about it the way you put it here. I will use this. Thank you for giving me this tool. Now I have another way to look at getting rejections.. A way that really makes sense to me.

  11. We know going in that MLM isn’t going to be embraced by each person. It doesn’t matter what your proposition is, not everyone will like it.
My take on it is that I am instigating the action so I have to find a conversational way to find out if my prospect is actually a prospect. It isn’t rejection if she turns out to not be a prospect. You can’t ask a lot of people to dance without running into a few non-dancers. It isn’t rejection. They don’t dance.
When you speak to the right cat, you can’t keep him out of your program. He’ll load up like a bird dog.

  12. As what “pacman” pacquiao said in one of his interview after he earned his 7th world title belt in 7 weight class division ” if you practice hard, the fight is easy.”– I’m inspired…

  13. It comes about a realization that we are in the people business and if you can not communicate effectively you will not susceed.

Practice does not make perfect it only makes it better.

You got to understand the only way to fail is to quit. I cannot imagine someone who has been exposed to the promice of free enterprise or the ability to take control of your own life quietly sinks back into the habbits before and the regular life they slip back into their job and the rat race… they then bad mouth the industry or call it a scam and thoes that do mananage to take responsibility for their actions say

” It’s great it just not for me.”

. This oppourtunity is not for the weak, faint of heart and thoes that will never be able to step out of their confort zone…keep stepping out of yours…

  14. Hi Randy Gage.

There is something that I think of everytime, I feel that “this is not going anywhere, Viktoria”.

I found an expression in “kyokushin” many years ago. It says:

” pain is only weekness leaving your body”.

It might sound tough but I think it is so true.

It is me and only me who decide what to focus on, and if I choose to focus on bad experience and not see through it, then I won’t reach my goals.

It is so easy. The karate has so many good things you can rely on. I really recommend everybody to try it!

Good luck to you all. // Vickan

  15. I refuse to give up or give in. Who are we to complain about no sign ups or people dropping out. Those are the ones who quit on themselves. I have no intentions of quitting on me.
