The 7 Sponsors to Avoid Like the Plague, Part 5

Okay so we’ve got four down, three to go.  Let’s look at type number five:

“Catch the Wave” Dave

This guy or gal sells totally on momentum, trying to convince you that any minute you wait is a mistake.  As a rule they’re usually “MLM Junkies” who flit around from deal to deal, always looking for the next hot thing.

They never put down roots, never develop any real duplication or residual income and end up out of the business eventually.  They’re always looking for a shortcut and an easier way.  They never mention the product or the work it takes to build.  Instead they market with clichés like “catch the wave” and “call your downline before they call you.”

For the most part they’re lost causes who can’t be rehabilitated, although occasionally one will get tied of the game and become open to learning how to actually build a long-term business.  But you definitely don’t want to sponsor in with anyone that comes to you with such an approach.

Please share your thoughts and experiences with this type of sponsor below.  And next post we’ll look at type six…

  1. Hi Randy, Thanks for yopur mentoring. Here are some ideas about Eric and your search for a line for MLM morons:
    1. I’m actually looking for an illegal pyramid scheme, do you know of one I can get into?
    2. Unless this is one of those opportunities where I can alienate my friends and family, I’m not interested.
    3. Unless this is one of those opportunities where I can spam people with email and hype, I’m not interested.
    4. I’m actually looking for a way I can **ss off my friends and family, is this it?

    Best,
    Bill

    1. Meaning the people that just jump from one deal to the next, always looking for something hotter. They never stay put and actually build anything.

  2. It’s so true Randy. Sometimes it amazes me how people have the stamina to keep switching from company to company.

It’s easy to see it online these days – 1 minute someone’s promoting 1 thing – the next … well they’ve switched to something else.

How much harder do they make it on themselves to be able to build and maintain their credibility? I know some really big shots who do this and for all of their big dollars and apparent success I would never sign up with them because how can you trust someone who is forever changing their mind?!!

By choosing a good company and sticking with it I believe your relationships and credibility become very valuable.

  3. There’s a guy here in Australia that fits this description perfectly. I first talked to him when I got him into my company 3 and half years ago. He tried prospecting me into a deal which he was just getting into after quitting another company. This was going to be ‘huge’ and I was ‘definitely going to regret not getting involved.” Three months later I called him to follow up and found he was starting to tire of that company…

Two years later I call him again, to find he’s working another company that’s going to be ‘massive’ and I need to get in now…

Around six months ago I called him while in Sydney to organize a business briefing with him and my upline from Florida. He can’t make it of course, because the new deal he’s into is exploding, and he has no time to look at anything else.

One month ago he shoots an email telling me about a new hot company he will be help bring Down Under, that I should be seriously looking at. Whew!

Meanwhile, I’m in the same company, building steadily, and have earnted a cheque every single month without fail. A few people I know have been prospected by this guy and I tell them straight out…”wait till the next deal he’s in, it’ll be a lot better!”

  4. Your presentation of these types is excellent, and the comments tahat are left on it are very interresting and do serve to illustrate the types.

Keep on it is good and certainly helpfull.

  5. WHEW… I never met anyone like that yet, I’m new at this. I ‘ve been working at this for a little over 2 years now and I like it. (my 1st company) I just hope I don’t sound like that type. These training tools are very helpful for all that are in this business no matter how long you’ve been at it.

  6. Randy, you said once at a London event 2007 that you’re in that company with the CEO signing your bonus checks until at least 2048 or something. Even the CEO thought it was a long time by the way. 🙂 And you know what? People knew you were telling the truth. That’s simply one of the most powerful commitments I have ever experienced. In combination with that you also said that your name means something and therefore you are not for sale. The CEO was almost kind of shaking his head in admiration by that time. That’s huge. Again, very few people have your commitment and integrity, and for that I admire you greatly. Thanks!

    1. I was there too… Saturday 18th August, 2007 in London, I remember Randy saying that too, that he would be with the company until 2048 with his bonus checks being signed… Good to see he’s still here. That’s commitment.

  7. This is a big one. I just started a Meetup Group for MLM’s to get together and support each other. Would you believe that some people were in more than one MLM organization. How in the hell do you build 2 organizations and if you were doing something in one of them why would you need two.

I recently had a guy get upset with me and told me I didn’t understand multiply streams of income because I refused to look at his website. He told me that so many people needed credit repair in this country that I would be crazy not to catch “the waive” of this new company.

    Spot on Randy.

  8. That phrases are also on many homepages in the internet ads.

Everyday a new product of the day you must join before the others join.

It´s now choice to build my future (at least the next 50 years) on it.
