Have I Been Drinking the Kool-Aid?

So what’s up with all these MLM haters commenting on the MLM Success Blog?  It’s fun to have the dialogue, but it’s curious if they are so against the profession why they’re reading the blog every day.  What’s up with that?

Anyway, on the last post “Brutal Truth” said, “Folks, Randy has been drinking the ‘MLM Kool-Aid awhile-so his pitch always defends his position as a network marketer.  But, make no mistake about it – the truth is that he spends ungodly amount of time maintaining his business to be profitable, including mandatory travels to all corners of the earth.  Why? The attrition rate in MLM is horrendous and he must keep ‘new blood’ coming in to maintain his income.  And where is the ‘freedom’ in that? No, the failure rate in MLM is not 95%.  It’s more like 99%. 99% of ALL mlm’ers make less than $40K/yr GROSS.  That IS gross.  Compare that to dozen’s of well established franchise where over 80% become successful. Sure, it costs more to start but it’s all about results, isn’t it?”

Alrighty then!  Well I guess I am guilty as charged.  I have drunk the MLM Kool-Aid, because I had been broke my whole life and MLM made me a multi-millionaire.  It introduced me to self-development, which enriched my life more than anything else possibly could.  And it took a pathologically shy guy and made me thousands of friends around the world.

Regarding the incomes and failure rates “Brutal Truth” suggests, I’m just not buying them.  Personally in the four years I’ve been back in the business I have sponsored 153 people.  Last month when I checked, 68 of them were still actively building the business.  Many others chose not to do the biz, but still enjoy the product benefits.  Nothing to be ashamed of in that.

And I go back to something I shared earlier.  I have THOUSANDS of people on my team earning more than $500 a month.  And many of them are in Russia, Ukraine, Singapore, Nigeria, Colombia and other places where this level of income makes a very tangible and life-changing benefit to their lives.  And yes, I have a good number earning more than $5,000 a month as well.

I don’t spend an “ungodly” amount of time maintaining my business.  I do work it though, and I hope no one thinks it’s free or easy.  But I’ll take my lifestyle over a franchisee any day.  I do travel around the world and I love it.  I have an apartment in Sydney, and thanks to my travels have seen La Scala opera house in Milan, Red Square in Moscow, the architecture of Valencia, Spain, ate chicken Kiev in Kiev, stood on top of One Tree Hill in New Zealand, walked around Walden Pond, rode an elephant through the rain forest in Thailand, and a host of other experiences way to numerous to mention.

Now the point about the success of franchises is a valid one.  They do have a high success rate and they offer a good deal to a certain type of person.  But that type begins with people that have a large amount to invest to begin with, which I didn’t have when I started out.

“Brutal Truth” goes on to say, “MLM is the perfect get-rich vehicle for the chosen few.  Namely the owners, home office executive staff, and the few ‘big name’ distributors hired by the owner/s to be used as a ‘booster rocket’ for faster rise to the top. They know how profitable MLM is FOR THEM. Of course, the heavy hitters the owners hire aren’t on the same ‘deal’ as you are. The ‘home office’ understands most will fail and it’s OK with them.”  Actually I’d agree that situations like this exist in our business, and I’ve always spoken out against them, as I did in my MLM Manifesto.

The last thing I would respond to was Brutal Truth’s assertion, that “Especially in this economy, MLM is a horrible choice for creating extra income. People today need to make money NOW.  Not 5 years from now and not $82 a month either.”  The only free cheese is in the mousetrap.  Nothing credible makes money NOW.   But in terms of what is out there offering a reasonable chance of success if you are willing to work, doesn’t require a large investment, and can be ramped up relatively quick, I’ll take MLM any day.

  1. Well I have had a franchise business my parents started in 1986-we outlasted the franshisor by 14 years. My wife & I start with network marketing business in 2001,
We must be in the 1% because my wife & I have madea little over $40,000 since January 2009,we didn’t need to leave NJ (our home state) except to umm, let’s see, oh yeah – fly to the Dominican Republic (where our network marketing company has to operations, btw) for a5 day 4 night all-expense paid company retreat.
Money I’ve made from my franchise since 2001 $0.00 Time i could take away for vacation in 16 years 2 weeks (not every year-jut 2 weeks in 16 years!!!!)
One of the top associates in our company owns a few franchises. he & his wife also actively recruit for their network marketing business-why? Residuals…plain & simple.
I had no time with our “traditional” business – never went anywhere & after 9/11 lost 80% of our customer base. That’s attrition. 40% of our original personal sponsees are still on the books using their service & and occassion even signing people up.
    IDK-it’s working for us…Thanks Randy-I’m kinda thirsty myself-Hey Koool-Aid

  2. This sounds like a second grade, playground pissing match – it’s just done for something to say.

Let’s see, we live in a world where less that HALF of working people now have traditional jobs – and corporate America is doing its best to chase the rest out – what are people supposed to do?

It’s adapt or die time again. The most flexible people win every time.

  3. I really think the only explanation of this kind of comments of “Brutal Truth”, is that she is so very jealous of you and all other succesful mlmers !! That must be it, Randy! We know better in all the aspects which she is commenting on.
I look forward to seeing you again this Friday in Amsterdam, Randy!
Great what you have organized there!
    Till then, kind regards
    Stella

  4. I really think the only explanation of this kind of comments of “Brutal Truth”, is that she is so very jealous of you and all other successful mlm-ers !! That must be it, Randy! We know better in all the aspects which she is commenting on.
I look forward to seeing you again this Friday in Amsterdam, Randy!
Great what you have organized there!
    Till then, kind regards

  5. You just keep on drinking it Randy !!! When I decided to step out of my box and buy a car that I could not afford……I stepped up my game. I had a 4yr loan and paid it off in 3yrs with my MLM money hehehe That felt really good and I realized right then that setting goals works for me. If I had been in a 9-5 I would have struggled to make the payments monthly and certainly wouldn’t have paid it off a year early. What would have happened is it would have been squeezed into my monthly budget. Now I can set my goals and earn far more than a predictable salary. That to me is huge. Working from home works for me. Helping people earn money works for me. Being able to have all the products I sell at a huge discount works for me. I may never be as rich as you are monetarily Randy…….but my spirit is certainly as rich as your’s. Have a blessed day everyone 🙂 You ROCK Randy !!!

  6. Well, I am not one of those MLM haters. In fact, I like what Randy stands for and for MLM. It is not as easy as Randy would us to believe. He even said that for five years, he couldn’t built a network. He needed to change his limiting beliefs and develop his business skills over time.
But to suggest, that you only need $1,000 and you will start making $100,000 within a year, it is unrealistic.
My problem with people who make it in MLM is that they describe the business as simple as opening as a bottle of pepsi. Even Randy said, only 5% will become millionaires in Network Marketing just like an any other profession.
Randy has been in the profession for over 20 years, It wouldn’t suprirse me that of those 153 people he personally sponsored, 10 or more were already leaders or have built other network marketing companies before they were introduced to his business. In order to sponsor 153 people in your network, how many people did you have to talk to?
My only point or comment is that, NM leaders are not telling the whole truth when they represented the business. For example, there is not one leader that can tell me that their network has been built in a perfect geometric projection.
    YOu can 5
    He gets 5 = 25
They each gets 5 = 125 and so on.
Why give that example in the first place?

    1. enrique you will always be broke. How many multi-millionaire employees do you know? That’s what I thought. MLM is used to build people. Corporate America uses people to build their business.

  7. Randy, I agree with you!

This “Brutal Truth” person doesn’t have a clue.

I came into the network marketing profession two years ago with NO previous experience. I had no downline and did not get a single person placed in my organization from my upline.

Within two years I’ve developed an organization of over 13,000 people and generated an income that let’s me do what I want anytime I want.

Network marketing is a very cool business. I’ve been in business previous to network marketing and there is nothing as fun or more rewarding than this business.

Maybe I’m just a fluke? One of the 1%’ers?

Well, truth be told, it’s the 1%’ers that make all the money in every business.

Network marketing isn’t the problem. It’s brilliant.

It’s the person in network marketing.

Network marketing is 100% based on productivity. It has shown me how very unproductive people really are.

If you don’t produce you don’t get paid. Pretty simple.

But, then again, maybe that’s what makes people give all kinds of excuses. They don’t want to admit that they just don’t produce.

In my opinion, network marketing is true capitalism.

  8. I must admit, Randy, I also wondered why the heck people who are so against the network marketing concept would bother to keep writing in. I have been in the NM biz since late 1995 and – yes – it did take me a while to earn $1,000 per month which was my initial goal, but I was running a full time small computer business with my husband at the same time, so I had limited time to invest. Nevertheless, that extra money doubled our disposable income! I know for a fact that there are many families who would find an extra $400 a month really handy right now – it might make the difference between keeping their house, maintaining their car, or putting sufficient food on the table.

I can certainly say from personal experience that the concept of network marketing is such an improvement on regular business – most small firms fail within 2 to 5 years, and many are still hanging on by their fingernails after five years just to keep afloat, with actual profits or salaries a far-off dream. We soon realised that we needed to apply some of the strategies we were learning in netwoking to our regular business as well, and it has made a difference. We are still kickin’ after 27 years!

The naysayers should concentrate on making positive statements about their own ideals – after all, we are not knocking them! We just want to peacefully continue along a path that promises us so much. Of course we work as hard as anyone in a job in the early years – nobody ethical has ever said this is a get-rich-quick business. What is on offer is great prosperity to all those prepared to knuckle down, learn the ropes, and build their teams to the point where they reach their goals, and probably beyond. I’ve done it and I’m 70! I don’t need to stop “work” because that’s what is probably keeping me young enough to enjoy my life and my living. Long may it last!

  9. Randy ~
I agree with you 100% .. i’ve been doing MLM Fulltime for 13yrs. after owning several successful businesses for over 30 yrs.

The way conditions are right now people sure can’t afford a franchise, most are trying to hold on to a home.
In MLM if they have the Desire, Agree to work , The Will to Learn some simple, New Skills and pick the Right Company .. They can earn an income with Great Tax Breaks To Help pay for It and have the Time to Enjoy It along the way.

Our company is one that “PAYS NOTHING TO ANYONE UPFRONT TO JOIN” .. EARN IT .. If You Are good Or Will Work With A DREAM & A PLAN .. it’s right here for all …
    Thanks,
    Phil,

  10. RG is asking why the people who are against the MLM business, are yet spend
time to read and give comments. I think that these people are not sure about
what they say or think, so they stick around to be sure that the MLM realy
    doesn’t work……

  11. I can be completely objective about both MLM and Franchises. My husband and I have owned a Franchise in the Pittsburgh Area for 3 years. It was a huge investment up front and ungodly amounts of time have been put in building the business to this point and will continue for years to come. At the time of opening we were approached by a gentleman that had a product that could help us build our business and develop relationships with our customers. We thought it was a great idea and became involved to use the service that this company provided. Through using this MLM Service our company has grown and our Franchise Corporate Office has asked about what we are doing different in our marketing Plan. We were #3 in the US for Referrals. I presented my MLM product to them and they are now a subscriber to our MLM Company also.

If I had any idea that we could make the kind of income through the MLM that we want to make through the Franchise, with less upfront investment, stress, hours invested in building etc. I would have put all my time and effort into an MLM.

I have put a minimal amount of time with my MLM Company because the Franchise is so time consuming, and I know if I put the time I have invested
with the Franchise into the MLM I would be much further ahead financially.
It is a family joke now that we have made more money with a $400 Distributorship than we have with a 1/2 Million Dollar investment.

I would choose drinking the Kool Aid of a MLM Company over Franchise any day of the week. WE WILL make the Franchise work and it will be profitable as we will never, never, never quit. Quitting is the single biggest reason that people in MLM or any business are not successful. They quit before they get started. You can not blame MLM for that…

  12. There is no other business opportunity on the planet that compares to what network marketing can give you. Those who “took a stab” at network marketing in the past and failed did so because they probably received incompetent and ineffective training and they were probably with the wrong company.

Now, in this industry just like in other industries, there are good companies and bad ones. Just look at what Enron has done to so many. If you do your due diligence and compare companies, pay plans, tools in place, success systems in place, products that grab your attention, and years that the company has been in business then you will surely find your company.

Now once you do find a company that truly gives you the opportunity to succeed and you do receive effective and competent training then the rest is UP TO YOU. Many people come into this industry and have a “get rich quick mentality”. Many people come into this industry and expect their upline to do most of the work for them. NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

You have to be self responsible, self motivated, and must have a big WHY if you are to succeed in network marketing, And, for the price you just can’t beat it.

Where else can you get the leadership, free training, tools, websites, and low cost of entry. The answer: NO WHERE ELSE!

Jobs are no longer secure, seniority no longer means anything, social security and medicare programs are in trouble, and the government is not going to solve all of your problems and whoes. It is up to you to take action and do something different with your life if you are going to be able to survive in the future.

Network marketing offers anyone the opportunity to do just that. To all the naysayers out there…….DO YOUR HOMEWORK, GET INFORMED, AND GET ONBOARD!. This is truly the last option of free enterprise that we have and it is the cheapest way for anyone to own a business.

  13. “Brutal Truth” is totally clueless. There are two kinds of people that hate MLM: (1) Those who don’t have a clue what they’re talking about and never care to learn, and (2) those who tried MLM and failed. Regarding the second half, I would respect them more if they simply said, “Hey, I tried—did what I could—and I just couldn’t make it work for me.” Instead, this group chooses to blame their failure on an entire industry. (Laughable) How can I take anything a person like that says seriously. The “REAL TRUTH” is that there is success and failure in everything, and if you continue comparing yourself to the people who fail, then that’s the path you will follow. Sorry, you may be brutal, but there is no truth behind your statements.

  14. Net”work” Marketing takes just that work!
It also tends to be counter intuitive.
The people who are not successful think they must become some kind of frothing at the mouth sales person, puking all over people about how good their ‘stuff’ is.
If more people truly understood what the business is about and quit attempting to build it they way “they think” it should be built – more people would be successful.

  15. Randy You know what I say to the people that are complaining about you drinking the Kool Aid.

MLM will set you F R E E if you have the desire and self motivation. they are just mad and jealous that they quit on themselves.

  16. Randy,

they are LAZY and JEALOUS. It’s that simple and irrational. Therefore, it’s not something that can be explained rationally. Why waste the time?

    Keep drinking the Kool Aid!

  17. I don’t buy those numbers either Randy. Many of those are mlm junkies that jump from one to the next and never stayin long enough to have success. The success in franchises is in the system. Look at MacDonalds, they don’t have the best hamburger, just a good system to follow! Same in network marketing when a system is in place and is followed success comes!

  18. waaw ,talk about the right attitude? where did he or she leave it?

Its not because he or she isnt able to understand NM that they have to trash it, well same as always, people are afraid of things they dont know and understand.
You’re an example , Randy, and so i’ll work to drink Kool Aid to , in time

  19. MLM is more than just about the money, it’s about where it can
take you, physically, mentally, and financially. And the business
skills that you learn for yourself are priceless.

Set your goals and do what it takes then re-invest in other assets
and create more cash flow. I take my MLM earnings and re-invest
them in to Real Estate. (I know different blog).
Which in turn creates me more cash flow. Residual Income.

If you are not willing to do what it takes to get where you want to go,
you will not get there. If you don’t first learn to peddle a bike
you can’t get where you want to go on it. Do what it takes.
Success will be yours in network marketing and MLM.

  20. Randy:
Keep Drinking the Kool-Aid. If I want Negativity, all I have to do is check CNN or the news. Thanks for being you!

  21. WOW…Kool-aid…

I’ve learned and I’m still learning that the key to wealth creation is to get a large group of people to do little things over a consistent period of time….and following the biz plan that the upline has laid out to the T…not reinventing it in any way….and edifying the upline 24/7…

You must keep sifting, sorting, prospecting and looking for people that are already motivated and GET IT once you show them the tools ….SWSWSW!

Those that don’t GET IT or don’t want to give you the opportunity to allow you to show them the plan…..NEXXXXTTTTTTTT!

Sometimes you want push people out of their comfort zone…The great ones work very closely with their group 24/7 and train and coach 24/7!

Wait till I start calling some of my 8 million contacts…..that I can’t get to yet fast enough! Randy …can the company help me?
It’s gonna be AMAZING GRACE! See you on the beaches of the world!
    Tony Beach

  22. Randy you are spot on!

Using a franchice as a model to compare to NM is not apples to apples. Franchicees are the kind of people that we are looking for without a lot of money or know how to start.

  23. Hey R

    just keep drinking 🙂
i have worked whit MLM i 3 years now, and it had not let me down.
“When you plant lettuce, if it doesn`t grow well, you don`t blame the lettuce. You look for reasons it isn`t doing well”.

look forward to seeing you again this Friday in Amsterdam, Randy!
    Regards Karsten Aagaard

  24. Let’s face it Randy there are those that “get it” and those that don’t and there’s absolutely nothing that any of us can do about it, period, end of discussion. Except that it is fun to have such a heated debate with morons. People shouldn’t get into a battle of wits with no ammunition. and the only reason they would consistently read this blog is that they have no life and they are on a crusade to save us from drinking the MLM Koolaid. soiunds to me like” if they think they can convince us that NWM is not a real business model, then they might be alcoholics!” That would explain it. They come home after a hard day working at Taco Bell. They sit down to a bean burrito and a 6 pack of fermented hops and then check out this blog.

  25. I really don’t appreciate such negativity! The whole world is moving towards negativity and, hey, it certainly is easy to slip into that mode. Me, I prefer the wonderful positive world that is available to those of us who enjoy a challenge and a bit of excitement. Is it easy? Of course not! Is it worthwhile? definitely. After all, the only differences between MLM’ers are the length of time they’ve been in the industry and the individual. The opportunity is the same for all of us so, if you don’t work and replicate, you will inevitably find that your journey is much longer with much less excitement.

  26. What troubles me the most are those that destroy dreams
and excitement of people, who would like to try mlm, even
before they start. I wonder if they fear that person might
be successful, and then where would that leave them, the
    dream stealers?!

I have experienced the situation where being successful
caused friends to try pulling you down instead of being
happy for you. A psychologist explained that when a peer
becomes more successful, some people feel they are less,
or diminished in some way. That is so sad!

I guess the answer is to hang out with people more successful!
It’s called your upline, and they’re always encouraging you to
    become more successful.

  27. My Kool-Aid isn’t real sweet nut…it gets sweeter every month. MLM is the best business model out there. Everyone that WORKS…WINS no corporate job does that!!

  28. Dear Brutal Truth

    We are lovers, not fighters.

Join us at least to listen we are.

MLM is really about what we are, and if you want to know, we are incredible.

We love people. We love to help them, to support them to couch and learn from them as well.

True MLMs love their products, but more than that, they believe MLM is the only just free enterprise model business, and that´s why they bond to it.

Not all of us will ever get financial success. But let me tell you this: There are others ways to have success in live and financial is not the only one.

Join us in Amsterdam and I am sure you will at least wonder why are a bunch of happy people willing to be all together to listen to one guy coaching them about that MLM thing.

I am sure everybody will welcome you.

Freedom is not only a word.

MLM is not just an acronym.

They really go very well together…

    Love you all
    Alfredo Rodrigues

  29. I am a single mom of 3 who owned several “brick and mortar” businesses over the years. About 3 years ago, I was introduced to Network Marketing and when the trainer said…”What’s bigger your EGO or your bank account?” I could not ignore that question. I was $100k in debt because of a “brick and mortar” business. (restaurant and ladies fitness)
I decided I should get out of my own way and do everything I could to mirror the success of the people on stage and the trainer. Well, I was not a friend of the owner, I didn’t come with another downline and had no prior success in this industry. 14 months later, I was in the Top 20 income earners and life for me and my family has never been this good. I have a residual income well over $60k+ a year.
I made a decision and have made myself accountable to learn, be coachable and easy to work with. If it doesn’t work……a person has no one to blame but themself. We all have the same amount of time…..what you do with it is the problem. Most people want a “get rich quick” or a “free lunch”. That’s why we have a housing crisis…..getting loans that were too good to be true….but you question the “truth” of Network Marketing. Adults are funny people.

  30. Randy,
They can say whatever they want. If one sticks to the system it works, some faster than others. One must not get distracted by these non believers. Just say next.

  31. kool-aid, just keep drinking, drinking, drinking — i want some more… lol…

i have been thinking the same thing. i have to say, dude you handle them a hell of a lot better than i would :o) kudos to you.

my guess is they are looking for their 8 minutes of fame and an opportunity to get a response from you personally, to boost their ego or to make them feel special. even the haters need your love to. hehehe….

i met a guy about 5 years ago, he is a speaker, does a lot of real estate speaking and prgrams. when he saw your book in my breifcase he was like, you have his book? i am good friends with him. i was like WHAT? no way, tell me more! hehehe (could’ve won an acadamy award for my performance) LOL.. then he went on and on about how you introduced him on stage and how you told the audience you were his good friend and how he is one of the most powerful speakers you know. on and on and on….

to him, no matter how well known he is in his circles, no matter how much he makes in real estate and speaking, his highlight of his life was the 45 seconds you interacted with him. not the time he spent working with another famous speaker, nope the 45 seconds you interacted with him.

its got to be the same with the negative people… they just need some randy luvin…. LOL…. the quickest way to get a reply from you is through negative interaction. we’re all just kids at different stages in our lives LOL….

for me i will always remember one time our eyes locked when i accidently walked in on one of your seminars in dallas, you were walking down the isle telling a funny story sorta laughing at your own joke, the audience erupted in laughter and then you looked at me as i walked through the door, it was magical… hehehe ok, ok, ok… i cant do it… i tried to swoon, its not working … i have to go wash my brain out with soap now… hehehe

luv ya anyway though…. peace out

  32. Randy:

If your secret to success is Kool Aid, then I think I will trot down…not to my local supermarket…but to the nearest Sam’s Club and purchase a bulk supply of the stuff for myself and my entire team. At our next meeting, I’ll serve Kool Aid in wine glasses as our “Randy Gage power elixer of the month”, and I’ll recommend that all in attendance drink 4 ounces at bedtime and 4 ounces in the morning.

    P.S. We love you, dude!

  33. Don’t You get it???

“Brutual Truth” was the prospect who asked if the presentation would run into his Wheel of Fortune show! No wait, maybe it’s the prospect I cooked at Starbucks??(BTW Thanks for the book Randy!!!) Hard to say. But still soo familiar….

Either way, why discuss anything with someone whose looking to hate? It’s like trying to convince the prospect that they should dream again. Nothing this guy says is “truth” it’s all preception, a mere opinion. He is an illusion created by us to see how deep our convictions are for what we are doing- making the world a better place. Besides nothing makes unhappy people unhappier than seeing happy people- so let’s be happier.

“Brutual Truth” I will say a prayer for you that things start turning around for you. When you change how you look at something, the thing itself will change. I challenge you to live 24 hours in complete positivity.

  34. people talk bad about MLM because they know it works, it work so good that traditional companies are looking into it, look at the commercials on T.V. some companies are giving money away to their customers if they refer someone, MLM is the only way that you really get paid for your efforts nothing more and nothing less nothing is effortless.

    like I always say:
“…then again that is just me”

    Good luck to all

  35. I think its just because they can’t it to work for themselves.
People always hate what they don’t understand or control.
That’s human nature! But MLM’s work well with the right strategies

  36. Just a quick note to say that I agree with both “Anonymous” and “Brutal Truth” and wish that I had never gotten involved with MLM.

It’s just like smoking, you know it’s bad for you but you make up all kinds of excuses why it isn’t!
In the end you relise (hopefully) the “brutal truth”, you have to quit and it has to be cold turkey! it’s the only way!

And so it is with MLM, the only difference is you don’t even have to make up the excuses there are plenty of people (this site is just a small example) who will give them to you. You know the ones:

You’re not spending enough on the “tools” (tools that only make money for the tool makers, just like this site by the way)
You’re not talking to enough people.
Youre not attending “all” the events (events that only make money for the Co. and the tool makers/sellers)

I’m sure you know them all!

And before you ask, why am I here? First of all I get at least 2 emails from RG inviting me to the site and second, as with smoking it took me a while to go cold turkey.

    Thanks “Anonymous” and “Brutal Truth”

As for all of you defenders knock yourself out! Just remember Flee! Cold Turkey it’s the only way!

    Regards!

      1. Of course you fell for it!

        You’re in MLM!!!

And you will keep falling for it until relise the “brutal truth”

        Regards,
PS. Knock your self out! Remember “no pain no gain”

  37. Hi Randy,

I totally agree with Stella, Brutal Truth is just so jealous….
He/she can’t stand the fact that other people see the possibilities and opportunities of network marketing.

I don’t care, I believe in network marketing and I believe in you.
    Keep drinking the Kool-Aid!!!

See you Friday in Amsterdam, looking forward to it :-))

  38. Someone who take potshots at others under an anonymous name like Brutal Truth can’t be taken seriously.

And if Brutal Truth has any honor left, identify yourself and defend your stand as a gentlemen or lady would.

  39. Bravo, Randy.

I’ve been a professional networker for two decades now, and love the freedom I experience working for myself. And the income, well, that’s pretty great too! 🙂

Never give up, or let someone steal your dream! I just got back from my beach house, spent a week in the Bahamas the week before, all expenses paid from one of my companies and am now planning my next trips to Manhattan, Las Vegas and Houston.

Yes, I’ll do some work, host a couple of workshops, learn some new ideas at company events, but I’ll have a fantastic time sharing ideas and experiences with great friends!

I wouldn’t trade my life as a networker for any job! And for those who say … aw, you’re just so lucky… The harder I work, the luckier I get!

Here’s to great success in your endeavours!

  40. Mr Gage,
The next time you are in one of the most exotic places in the world, please pour out a little of that MLM Kool-Aid for me and the rest of the MLM family that ain’t there but are working to be there next time!! I don’t drink but pour out a little liquor…for the homies that ain’t there…! In fact, let’s all of us in the MLM Family Worldwide do it…!

Regarding “brutal truth”, I believe Jim Rohn said it best – “Very few of us are authorities on the truth. About the closest that any of us can get is what we hope is the truth or what we think is the truth. That’s why the best approach to truth is probably to say, “It seems to me….” — Jim Rohn.

I would AGREE with “brutal truth” on one thing though about networking marketing – NONE OF THE BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES WORK – YOU ARE A DISTRIBUTOR WORKS…..(or at least is SUPPOSED to CONSISTENTLY)…!

THAT is the REAL BRUTAL TRUTH….!!

The other BRUTAL TRUTH (and it’s hard to put a price tag on it) Network Marketing is a Billion Dollar industry WORLDWIDE …..!!

  41. MLM can get frustrating, that’s a fact. Everyone – even the Rock Stars – can get frustrated about people stanig them up for a meeting, joing the opportunity with excitement and then fizzing out just as quickly, etc This business is all about consistency and duplication. If you are truly passionate about your company and products, stick with it and your definition of success will happen. It’s not a magic pill that will launch you into financial success overnight but it will happen over time – maybe 1 year, maybe 2-5. That depends on the size of your network and how much time and effort you put into your business.

  42. Sounds like Brutal Truth had a bad experience with a rotten company. As far as my company, and many, many others, you get out of it what you put in …. if my group works harder than I do they make more – period. Do I care that the owner is in a great profit position – hell no! I hope he makes lots of money and keeps the company healthy and growing for years.

Pick a good horse and ride ’em hard … MLM rocks…

  43. Do you know why the MLM bashers keep reading your stuff, Randy? They can’t can’t help it, it’s because of your looks! 🙂 Repeat this mantra after me “It’s all my mother’s fault, I never asked to be born so good-looking!”

  44. It was actually originally stated that IF the facts were out, people would flee the business. And it was not stated that EVERYONE would flee the business. Quite a difference there. And the thing is, facts are not out. Facts about drop-outs, churn ratios, legal battles and perhaps even real figures about sales and recruiting volumes etc. are simply not out, so people can not really make a fair decision about the business.

Do people really only look at the positive side of anything else before making a decision? Is that how companies present their figures on the stock exchange? Is that how people decide whether to take this or that job?

What really happens, not only in MLM, is they transfer a belief in the business, company, products etc. to represent you, so now people have something to believe in. I am this and I am that and the other. No. You are not. You are infinite consciousness having a human experience, and knowing is better than believing in anything.

And by the way, why magnify the original post that lead to this debate if it’s such a “negative” thing? What’s up with that?

Of course, whatever people choose to do, on some level they need the experience, but take it for what it is, and for most people it’s just another wake-up call!

    1. Larabee, is that you again? I must admit I am at a bit of a cross roads here, maybe you can help me out with some of your deeply insightful advice? Are we, as loyal fans of Randy Gage and Network Marketing, supposed ignore you and your comments or do you really want us to comment back and interact with you?

Personally I think you could have more fun with your own blog instead of taking up so much space on Randy’s blog with your ideas and concepts that could be better served if delivered to a waiting, willing audience that is hanging on your every word.

Your lack of willingness to open your mind and see this subject from someone else’s point of view, or even at the least just allow people to think as they wish, reminds me of an analogy, (or is it a metaphor?) I use this with my clients that hold on to negative beliefs, ideals and concepts and insist on announcing to the world in their deeds and actions that they hold these negative destructive beliefs. (WARNING a very irresponsible use of NLP and Hypnosis is about to take place LOL…. — Although I am quite sure Richard Bandler would disagree with that. Hehehe)

Imagine your belief or idea is a piece of poop! What do you do with poop? Do you keep it with you and carry it in your pocket? Do you put it in your purse or wallet? Do you like to wear it on your suit, or in your hair as hair gel? Or maybe you use it as cologne and dab a little on your wrists, face, chest and behind your ears and spray some on your clothing? Do you use it on your face as a foundation? Do you like to shape it into little beads and charms let it dry and wear it as a necklace or bracelet?

No, no, no, you flush it down the toilet right? You don’t put it in the fridge in your favorite Tupperware to keep it fresh, you don’t throw it in the trash and let it linger for the after noon till you take out the trash; you simply poop it out and flush it. And when it is an extremely foul smelling poop you might even flush before you are completely done pooping to get rid of the foul odor as soon as possible right?

We typically don’t like to keep the poop hanging around because it smells bad and taints everything it touches and comes in contact with. Even when you accidentally step in dog poop, people can tell right away because everywhere you go you smell like poop, its almost like you suddenly have a poopy aura. What would happen if you had dog poop on your shoe, and walking wiped some of it on your pant legs and you walked into your friend’s home and got the dog poop on the carpet, on their wood floors, on their coffee table and on their kitchen floor? They wouldn’t like it right?

Exactly my point! Poop stinks and people don’t like it in any form, no matter where it is, on your shoes, on your clothes, even in your mind, in your thoughts and deeds and spewed out into cyber space, finding its way to a blog.

Randy referenced in another blog, Babaji, the Deathless Maha Avatar, and I googled Babaji and read some very interesting things about him that I did not know before. You might want to do the same.

Perhaps like Babaji, through your comments you are at some level attempting to help people and spread your ideals about higher planes of existence. Unlike Babaji you seem to think it is a good idea to wrap your message and ideals in poop and throwing it at people. Sure there might be a good message in there somewhere, but who wants to dig through poop to get to a tiny short sighted message? Not me that is for sure.

Since you are on clearly a higher plane than me, it might be a great idea for you to follow in Babaji, the Deathless Maha Avatar’s foot steps and dwell in a cave in remote India somewhere so you too can ascend beyond this simple planetary existence without the hindrances of me and others like me?

You wrote: “Of course, whatever people choose to do, on some level they need the experience, but take it for what it is, and for most people it’s just another wake-up call!” as seemingly insightful as that sounds, I find it extremely difficult to believe you are at a point in your astral ascension that you need overwhelming negativity in thoughts and words aimed at the physical and spiritual manifestation your call, Yourself!

On a more serious note, I am beginning to worry about you and interacting with you on this blog. I was relaxing yesterday and popped in a DVD of one of my favorite TV series, Numbers, and there was a disturbing resemblance from the case on my TV and your interactions with us on this blog, and it got me thinking, “what if…” I certainly hope you are a normal, sane, do-gooder that is slightly off course just looking for a way back to your life’s path.

Remember at the end of the day we’re all on the same team, and as you very well know, some are starters, some are clean up, some are bench warmers, and some clean the toilets!

  45. Just curious, but why is it that whenever it comes to Network Marketing, the naysayers want to focus their entire argument on failing..?

Let’s look at other things such as the lottery and gambling. There, it is an ACCEPTED FACT that one LOSES a lot more MONEY than they would win (if in fact they do win) but I dare say these same people spend minutes, hours, days, nights, weeks, months – CONSISTENTLY trying to “win” or “”succeed” at those endeavors and not blink an eye – LET ALONE QUIT …! Look at how much TIME and MONEY and EFFORT is LOST there….yet….they….still…do….it….time….and….time…again..!

Call me crazy but THAT is a pretty BIG failure rate and it applies to the “casual” to “problem” gambler. Do these same people, after watching an advertisement on T.V. about a particular casino, ask their “Broke Uncle Bob” what he thinks about gambling at that casino and the lottery and NOT do it because “he tried it back in ’77” and it didn’t work for him…! They use that rationale when it comes to Network Marketing AFTER seeing and meeting people that have had success in Network Marketing…!

Yeah, these people will say the casino’s machines are not “loose” or the pit bosses always fill the chip tray when “too many people are starting to win” on the card tables…….somehow that doesn’t stop the people from continuing to play the slots or leave the tables. If no one wins the lottery, people are GLAD because the amount is larger for the next time and people will continue to play and “invest” more money into that….! No one finds/creates a forum or finds/creates a website that says “Gambling Sucks” or “The Lottery is Lame”…!

I like the argument, “if the business opportunity is SO great at your particular Network Marketing company why aren’t the employees doing it.” Probably because it’s against company policy just like it is at some of the casinos. Employees prohibited from gambling at their place of work. Did any of these “experts” think of that..?

Anyway, enough Negativity…! Again, Network Marketing DOES NOT WORK but YOU as a distributor DOES WORK…..CONSISTENTLY….!!

    Here’s something:
Question: For all of the negative stuff that was said and written about Michael Jackson, can anyone say or name ONE negative comment that Michael Jackson said about ANYONE….? Perhaps we could ALL learn from this man…!
