Getting Your People to Invest in Themselves
There are all lots of people in our business right now that think they’re going to save their way to Diamond Director, or whatever the top rank in their company is.
They’re saving money by not investing in recruiting and follow up packs. They’re saving $8 or $10 by staying home watching CSI instead of attending their local opportunity meeting. They’re cutting back on their own product usage and canceling their autoship orders.
They’re patting themselves on the back, adding up how much they’re saving on airfare, hotel and meals, because they’re not attending their company convention or other major event. These people are on a path of failure, and you need to get them back on course.
They’ve given up any chance of success, but they don’t know it. And don’t want to…
It’s easier to lie and convince themselves that they’re still in the game, still have a shot at their dreams, and are just re-grouping for when the time is right. What they don’t get is that the time will never be more right than it is right now. At least not in their lifetime.
It’s time for a revolution. The current models are broken. They don’t work any more.
We need to get to real free enterprise. Not the over-regulated, over-legislated, substitute governments are pushing today, but real free enterprise like we have in MLM. Where you are rewarded in proportion to the value you provide, and where anyone, regardless of experience, education or connections has a viable chance to live their dreams. This message will resonate in the marketplace right now and we need to teach it to our teams.
Our profession allows everyone the opportunity of work with meaning. A chance to build success by helping other people reach success. A chance to make what they are really worth, with no discrimination or glass ceilings.
What we do isn’t just a job. It’s a profession, and a very noble one. Yes we have the chance to drive free bonus cars, win trips to exotic locales, earn free cruises, and earn more in a month than most do in a year.
But more importantly, how many single parents have been able to raise their kids, how many people escaped welfare, bankruptcy and poverty? How many have been the role model providing for their children and teaching them the values of self-sufficiency, integrity and hard work?
This is the time to buy EXTRA recruiting packs, make some extra phone calls, get to every event. This is the time to invest in growing your business, and take advantage of the window of wild opportunity we are facing right now. We need to explain this to our team members in a more compelling way. We have to use tough love if necessary, and make them understand.
We have to model the behavior ourselves of course. We need to be investing in our own businesses, attending the events, and being aggressive right now. It is the time for passion, intensity and urgency. And we need to convey that to our team.
Do this and you’ll grow your business, remain relevant in the market, and help a lot of people. Relax, ease up and buy people’s stories and your business will stagnate. So which one are you doing right now?

This recession makes peoples take actions which can be very often against themselves, it is important to stay in the trenches and fight on to reman in the game.
So keep active and be productive.

Awesome article! I think that sums it up!
Those who are cutting back, cannot see beyond their noses, and have a scarcity mentality, that needs to be overcome, to tap into our greatness…
You are your greatest asset, in times like this, where are you going to invest you money on? YOU are your best option!
Have a nice day!

Great tips to use… and like many of these it is the people who don’t need this advise who read it , but it is reassuring that we are doing the right thing and our vision has not been compromised. As to sharing it to the non believers… that’s the challenge.
thanks
Yikes this is a difficult one… if it were up to me they would all invest in themselves…. not only for functions, events, materials but also coaching, mentoring and self improvement. everyone would be spending at least $15,000 a year at the very minimum on self improvement seminars and education, not including coaching and mentoring.
but the the catch is, i dont get my people to do a thing. i help them to unlock their dreams, show them the path, walk the path with them, as well as lead by example… what they do aftter that is their deal, i dont have control over that, and i in no way shape or form even want to begin to “sell” them on the concept of investing in themselves.
if they dont get it after watching me, listeing to me, watching and listeing to you, or my up line, who like you is the best in the business, then there is nothing more i wish to do about it. i know it is probably not to most politically correct thing to say.
seriously, i want everyone to succeed, to achieve wealth and abundance to live a life of leisure and a lifestyle of wealth, in many cases i want it for them more than they do.
getting my people to invest in themselves, in my opinion that’s up to them. i can bring the horse to water but i cant make him drink. i can splash water on him, put him knee deep in the water, what the horse does after that is up to the horse.
i find that if i am not careful i am selling them on WHY they should do this that or the other thing, and that is not my function… i help to uncover their why, and point them in the right direction. i prefere people who have the, “find away or make away attitude.”
i am more comfortable leading by example in mlm business.
when i am teaching, coaching and mentoring, they have two options, 1. do what i recommend or 2. stop coaching and mentoring with me. i can give them many names of coaches that will be more than happy to take their money and coddle them, and baby them, and enable them as long as they keep paying.
when i recommend my clients purchase randy’s duplication nation and listen to it, take notes and be prepared to discuss what specific action they will take to imporve their business based on the program and they dont do it… coaching is over….
but in my organization, i dont get them to do anything….
same thing when they want to be sponsored by me persoanlly and to work with me one on one. they 1. read randy’s book before our next conversation. 2. if they havent already read mine they do that next. 3. they follow the steps outlined in the system, dont deviate, dont reinvent, and dont over think the process…. any deviations from that and they are welcome to reinvent the wheel without my input and guidance.
i am NOT in a hurry to sponsor them or to get their money or to sign them up… we have time for that… in the mean time they learn to become successful, gather their core team and and launch in a big way… it is exciting to see them sign up 10 or 15 people in a day then to watch them struggle through getting 10 or 15 people with all the pressure. their initial investment is regained from week one after they sign up they are operation in the black…
not including the tools and travel to build…. i show them the way to build their business and have the business pay for itself with a profit… it is up to them to follow the plan, that includes and investment in themselves.
for years and years i was the one running around trying to get everyone to go to this seminar, this event, read this book and that book, to get this or that coaching, and to buy this or that tape set… because i saw what it did for me and my business and my life… my business grew and thos who followed along also… but so so so many did not and suffered as a result. i have learned it is ok to lead the horse to the water make the water apear as inviting and quenching as possible but that is all….
if i am working with people that are worried about saving $8.00 here or there and worried about saving airfare to this place or that… or worried that gas has risen $0 .25 i do a full stop and ask myself, who wants their success more, me or them?
as a sponsor i will work with them, give them guidance and direction, i will assist them to build their business. i believe my job is to develop diamonds, not manufacture them. like a master jeweler, i take a rough uncut diamond and let the diamond express itself through my hands, and when i am finsished it is the diamond within that shaped and expressed itself, it just used my hands and tools to do so.
Well said…you cannot piggy back a person for the rest of your days…either they want to own their own lives and become successful or they don’t.
On a lighter note…if you want to make a horse drink water…feed him salt first.

Hi this is Peter G Beckworth here, You CAN”T plough a field from your MIND. So what does this mean? when we first learn to walk. and talk, we are programmed by our parents because we trust them, and are LOVED by them.No cares how much know, UNTIL they know how much you CARE. You see they are the duplication of what YOU ARE…..
