“Don’t Know How to Sell” Objections
Today let’s look at another objection that many of you have brought up. Namely, “I don’t know how to sell.”
If you’ve read my book, then you know that I think MLM is really a teaching and training business, not a selling one. (Unless you’re basically a retailer, which is not the focus of this blog.)
So if you get this objection a lot, it’s probably because you are leading with your products first, not the business opportunity. If you’re in Mona Vie doing tasting parties, Arbonne doing facial parties, or promoting Herbalife with “Lose Weight Now” buttons, you’ll get this a lot more. You’ll find leading with the business will dramatically reduce the frequency you get this objection.
Now it will still come up from time to time. When I get it, I always respond by explaining that I have no sales skills either, but I’m a good teacher. And good teaching skills will make you a lot more money in this business than sales skills. I also tell them that I didn’t approach them because I think they’d be a good product retailer, but am talking to them because they have leadership skills which I am looking for. This works very well. Hope that helps.
More on the next post… About to head back from Sydney. Have softball games in Miami this weekend, so I’ll check in from there.

Well, I think that sell products is part of the game.
What I say is “Selling products is the fast way of making some money, but to make a fortune, you have to understand the other way”.
Curiosity helps on the next explanation 🙂

The “I don’t know how to sell either, but I am a good teacher” is a fantastic line!
I am now better prepared! Thanks Randy!
Have a great day everybody!

What about not being objectionable? What are your steps to patience? How about identifying with their feelings and relieving their doubt? Ultimately, it’s their decision.
When they’re interested first in the “product”, don’t you try to drive them to the opportunity and still answer their needs like Emilio says?
What about not only how to talk to people but how to listen AND get what you want out of them? When do you let go, when do you keep chasing them, and what you do when you catch ’em–how do you know? So far the only one I’ve gotten has “fallen from out of the sky”. What do you tell yourself?
What I have is not about me.
Make any sense? (no guarantees)
Thanks and be blessed!
Well, I agree w/ most of you colleges, but…I believe poeple who enroll to MLM, w/o understanding how it works, fall rapidly in “selling tries”
200% agree w/you Randy about teaching rather than selling.
I usually explain people, that sellers find themselves very quick acting as grinders, and the best way to “teach” other, is to become, (yes you to become!!), the product itself.
If you believe in it, enjoy it and share true testimonials, the product will sell itself, and you will continuo to teach throughyour body lenguage.
Try it
Thanks again to all,(there is always something new to learn)
EVERY man, woman, and child already knows how to sell and they do it daily! What? Yes, whether a man is proposing to a woman, you’re on a job interview, or a child wants a certain sugary cereal or a toy-we are ALL salespeople! Too bad not enough of us get PAID for the restaurants, shoe stores, movies, and other places we recommend because more of us would be filthy rich right? YES! Happy $elling!
This is a FANTASTIC tool, it also has re-inspired ME!
Been a watcher of this blog for a while now and can’t believe why people “argue” with Randy.
Given that he never claims “this is the only way” and he is providing this information for free, I agree with all the positive comments and have bought other of Randy’s products as a result.
Leading with the product has always kind of struck me as being a one trick pony (then again, perhaps this is just a British comment). Having been a salesman – direct to the customer, not retail – the idea of being able to say to someone “do you want to earn money” with whatever words you choose seems to appeal to most, then the ones who say no to the opportunity can try the products. The opposite way is not possible as why would you want to sell something you didn’t want to buy in the first place?
Thanks for the excellent tips Randy
great teaching Randy, as you say you´re a great teacher, if I´d have read these posts yesterday, last nigth I would reverse some reactions I had at a home meeting! I´ll be training myself and my team with these knowledge of you, and if you don´t mind I´ll translate it to spanish and maybe, if you like, you could post it here…
Saludos, Enrique!
